Learning Highlights Mindful Monday Through to Thinking Thursday

Goodness, the days are flying by in December.  We did some math on  Wondering Wednesday to discover there are 9 days left until the break.    Here a some highlights for our explorations and discoveries this week.

On Monday we returned to our definition of ambassdor and we started our symbol creation for an ambassador.  We came up with the following definition:  "an ambassador is someone who puts others before themselves and stands up for what is right."  They represent the following values:  responsibility, empathy, independence, kindness and respectful.  Have a look at our web of connections for ambassador:
ask us about the ambassador walk.

On Tuesday we did some collaborative learning with our Kindergarten buddies in Room 124 next door.  You may remember that we were inspired by their artwork and we responded to the colors by making connections to our emotions and personal experience.  We decided to share our thoughts with the Kindergarten students and to ask them for their connections and ask them questions about their paintings.  It was a wonderful learning experience.  All were excited and we made some new friends.  Here are some photos to share:

In the afternoon we returned to our design thinking musical instrument prototypes.  We are really pumping up our designs.  We are learning through testing and plussing how to improve them, and how to design using different materials.   Room 123 values curiosity and creativity we learn by making mistakes and then going back to the drawing board to try out new ideas.  Everybody is being really mindful with the use of materials and upcycling
to create new designs.  Here some photos of some of the instruments:

On Wednesday and Thursday we have been writing persuasive stories, returning to our SLA question:  "If you could take a trip anywhere, where would you go?"  We wanted to see if all of work on figurative language and descriptive words will move our writing skills to the next level.  We worked on the computers to write this time in google docs and everybody is engaged and eager to write the best stories they can by including an introduction, organized ideas with supporting details, descriptive words using and a conclusion.  Some of us used the microphone to try voice typing and found this tool to be very helpful to capture ideas.  Here are some photos of the process:
