Wondering Wednesday - Testing Prototypes
The thinking question: Will our prototypes do the job? How effective are they for giving the user a sensory brain break when needed?
Global mind in action on Wondering Wednesday. We explored the Test Phase of the Design Thinking Cycle this afternoon when we traveled to Mrs. Jordan's class and asked the grade 2's if they could try out our prototypes of the sensory tools we built yesterday. This phase of the cycle is testing and getting feedback for improving and refining the design.
Mrs. Jordan and I were so impressed with how collaborative the two classes were. It could have been a real design lab in any innovative company anywhere in the world. This was a room of 21st century thinkers in action. The natural conversation was insightful and helped us learn what improvements need to be made to these first prototypes. Having real users, the grade two's, handle the designs to see if they were drawn in through sight, touch and hearing was very effective. We were able to gather real data in the moment. We were able to brainstorm for ideas to evolve/improve our designs.
Thank you so much grade two's for your amazing thinking!

Here are some photos of us gathering our feedback.
Here are some of our findings:
as the designs were handled parts started to fall off and so this gave us a chance to ideate for better attachment devices for prototype 2.
We discovered that our designs sparked students senses (especially touch and sight). They really wanted to touch them.
The feedback from our grade two learners proved that the designs sparked many connections for them, with is exactly what we wanted because the purpose of these designs is for learners to use them to take a brain break.
Here are some more photos from our grade 3 thought journals where they gathered the feedback to evolve their designs. Did you know makers and designers use journals to collect their ideas, and sketch their prototypes?
