Mindful Math on Monday

This morning we  carried  on our exploration of symbols  and how they can represent thoughts so that everyone can understand.  Our latest artistic focus is:  One Line Drawing.    This technique requires critical thinking and creativity to communicate a vision.  Here are some examples from the artists duo:

We are inspired by DFT:
"DFT is a french creative duo based in Paris and Berlin. Specialized in graphic arts, we explore the concept of continuity through our continuous line artwork."  Here is a link to some of the work we looked very carefully at today and tried to copy just using our eyes and our pencils in our design journals:  https://www.behance.net/gallery/28382239/One-line-Animal-logos

Well today certainly was exciting.  We are all working hard to get ready for our grand opening on Friday.  So,  this afternoon the entire school polished off their acting skills for a surprise Lip dub.  If you're not sure what this is ... stayed tuned you'll find out at either the dress rehearsal or the grand opening this week.  Don't forget to order your tickets on line, if you haven't done so already.

This morning we worked on some open ended math problems that really pushed our critical thinking skills to problem solve.  To do these you really have to use your background knowledge, and make connections to what your already know about numbers and how we use them.  It is important to ask quesitons, and make inferences as you read the question.  It really pushes you to a take a risk and push yourself to give it a try.    Persistence paid off for us and we began to build our confidence.  Here are some examples of the problems so you can try them at home with your parents.  The greatest thing about these problems is that there is not only one answer.  The more you think, the more answers you have and the more adjustments you have to make.  Give it a try.
