Important Dates to Note

Spelling: Since there are only 3 days this week we will not have a spelling test.  We will resume with lessons 81-85 after spring break.



Wednesday, March 22nd -- International World Water Day
-- we will be designing water filters in the morning and doing our neighbourhood water walk in the afternoon at 12:30 p.m.    If there there are any other parents who have volunteer clearance who would like to join us in the afternoon, please let me know.

We will celebrate the unbirthdays on the walk so please send a personal snack with your child that they can take with them.


Movie Night on Wednesday evening:

Thursday and Friday March 23rd and 24th - PD days - no school for students 

March 27-April 2nd - Spring Break 

 Apr 3 – Classes Resume

  • Apr 12th School Council 6:30 pm 

• Apr 14th – Good Friday – no school 
• Apr 17th – Student-Led Conference

We have been working on number of the day this week.  It is a great strategy for expanding our understanding of number sense.  Here is an example of what it can look like.  It gives students a way to practice multiple ways to work with a particular number.  A new number is picked everyday.   You can practice this at home with your parents.  Another category to add to this when you talk at home about numbers is:  Where in the world would  I find this number of things?      For example I might find 615 students in a middle school.  Or 615 dollars in my bank account.  Or 615 paintings in a gallery or 615 cattle on a ranch.   We have also been challenging ourselves to understand how  fractions and division are connected .  Below is a picture of how we can divide the number 368 in half.  Or, another way to look at is 368 divided by 2:  You can see that we have modeled how to divide this numbe...

Welcome to our new student in Room 123, his name is Toluwani and we are very happy to have him join our community.   If we attached an EEG (stands for Electroencephalography and measures the activity of neurons in the brain) to your brains in Room 123 today your firing neurons would light up the community of Evanston. You were on fire with the thinking today! Global Mind in action. As per usual, we went on a learning journey beginning with the Metis people, identity through meeting (via video) David Bouchard.  He is an amazing inspirational Metis author who happens to have written more than 50 books in English and French.
