Women's Wednesday #BeBoldforChange

United was the main idea today in room 123 as we celebrated International Women's day by living two of the global goals. Here is a link to a video we watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtXRnVCGh4Y
We lived the process of Activist authors/artists as we weaved social studies (global citizenship) and language arts together using strong verbs to create collaborative poems that celebrated International Women's Day, 2017. We puzzled and wondered about several different types of digital text. We started by watching a video and listening to Peter Gabriel's song Shaking the Tree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JduG0nT1Q3s Next, we examined some of his lyrics to discover the powerful meaning in his words. Next, we watched several of the videos trending in the world today to celebrated International Women's Day.
Here are some photos of the process:
Here are some examples of some the powerful writing from today Notice all of the powerful verbs that they used:

A poem for International Women's day 2017
By: Riley and Sharon
I stand up for greatness, for colorful women all
around the globe.
We need to help the great girls and women
stand up and change their lives
Women require equal pay for jobs.
It’s unfair that female dreams are sometimes stolen.
The boys should open their hearts to help the
women and girls.
Women dream that they can go to
School so they can be inspired
and educate others.
The girls are a united proud tribe.
We have to respect the girls.
I connect my heart to other girls hearts.
You should think before you ask.

I am human
I strengthen others.
I shout for a better world.
I change my actions every step.
Men are strong but my words are stronger.
Life isn't right so let's shake the tree that stands before us.
I am human

I am human
I stand up for gender equality.
I inspire people to make a change.
I change people's actions.
I help women escape poverty.
I challenge people’s actions to respect.
All women have a right to have an education and go to school.
