Mindful Measurement on Monday

To honor The David Suzuki 30 x 30 Nature Challenge (remember that research tells us that getting outside into nature helps build balanced and engaged brains)  Vitamin N is term coined by Richard Louv, here is a link for you to discover more information about the power of nature exploration. http://richardlouv.com/

Ms. Hargreaves and Ms Pearson have decided to create learning tasks that take us outside each day, we are going to do these tasks right after recess.  Today we were exploring measuring using meter sticks.  It's amazing how many things there are to measure outside if you just let your imagination and your eyes lead the way.  Here are some photos for you to check out.  We are hoping to establish visual referents for exactly how long a meter is - to build mental math skills, and to use addition as well as other operations to determine length and perimeter of objects outside.  We will be using our critical thinking skills to try and measure objects that are not exactly straight tomorrow.

As we are beginning animal life cycles in science we spent time this morning coming up with a definition for an ecosystem and drawing examples in our visual sketch journals.  Here is a link to a video we watched to expand on the concept of ecosystems.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJEToQ49Yjc

Our definition of the "renewable"  interaction of living organisms and species  and non living things in a specific area.
