Infographics Connected to our Learning

There are many threats to animals within in biodiverse ecosystems.  Through our animal research we are learning more about these threats.  One of these is the effects of overfishing and the devasting impact of bycatch.

Bycatch happens because the fishing industry targets specific species for capture. Unfortunately, other animals become hooked or trapped when attracted to the bait or target catch, or are simply unable to avoid capture or entanglement the massive fishing nets used by huge fishing trawlers.

Below is an infographic (a digital poster) that provides specific data about the numbers of populations that are impacted by this threat.  Infographics are powerful real world tools for us to analyze and apply our number sense to evaluate and think critically about real world problems.

Here is another infogrpahic explaining the effects of climate change in the arctic on the declining populations of polar bears.
