Reminders about Teacher's Pet

Paint Shirt for Thursday:

Students will need to wear old clothing for the paint session with Teachers Pet on Thursday afternoon, because they will be using acrylic paint and it will stain.  So, if you have an old shirt or t-shirt that they can slip over their clothes, please send it to school this week for them to wear during the painting.


$5.00 fee for the Teachers Pet Painting Session is due by Thursday, June 8th:  If you have not already done so, can you please send the $5.00 fee for the painting session.
Thank you to those people who have already paid the $5.00.  


In case you are wondering about why we need to ask for the additional $5.00 I wanted to just give you a breakdown of all of the activities that we have been able to participate in this year

In-line skating

  • Virtual field trip with Royal Tyrrell Museum  (Speaking to a Field expert about fossils)
  • Museokit from the Glenbow museum for  rocks and minerals (Rocks and Minerals Investigation)
  • Offsite field trip to Studio Bell and the East Village (Hearing and Sound; Design)
  • Guest speaker from the Humane Society (Conservation and human impacts on wildlife)

We have been working on number of the day this week.  It is a great strategy for expanding our understanding of number sense.  Here is an example of what it can look like.  It gives students a way to practice multiple ways to work with a particular number.  A new number is picked everyday.   You can practice this at home with your parents.  Another category to add to this when you talk at home about numbers is:  Where in the world would  I find this number of things?      For example I might find 615 students in a middle school.  Or 615 dollars in my bank account.  Or 615 paintings in a gallery or 615 cattle on a ranch.   We have also been challenging ourselves to understand how  fractions and division are connected .  Below is a picture of how we can divide the number 368 in half.  Or, another way to look at is 368 divided by 2:  You can see that we have modeled how to divide this numbe...

Welcome to our new student in Room 123, his name is Toluwani and we are very happy to have him join our community.   If we attached an EEG (stands for Electroencephalography and measures the activity of neurons in the brain) to your brains in Room 123 today your firing neurons would light up the community of Evanston. You were on fire with the thinking today! Global Mind in action. As per usual, we went on a learning journey beginning with the Metis people, identity through meeting (via video) David Bouchard.  He is an amazing inspirational Metis author who happens to have written more than 50 books in English and French.
